Witch & Amanaz
Just thought I'd make it known that the Stones Throw Store is now carrying two awesome Zambian-psych reissues from 1975. I bet you didn't know that Zambian-psych was a thing, but apparently it is - or at least it was, at least twice.
Lazy Bones by Witch (not the J Mascis/Kyle Thomas outfit) and Africa by Amanaz are both relics of a long-forgotten, or perhaps more likely, never before known Zambian psych-rock scene in the early to mid-70's. They sound appropriately like late 60's U.S. and British hard rock with a continental African influence. Both albums are mostly sung in English with a few songs sung in traditional Bemba. Language is really no barrier here because the heart of these songs are the super wah-ed or fuzzed-out guitar riffs, tight-as-hell bass lines, and no small share of crushing drum fills.
Check out the Now Again blog for further info on these recordings.
