Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell is a new documentary about the life and work of singer/songwriter, disco pioneer, and avant-garde composer Arthur Russell. I know I've mentioned him quite a few times on these pages, and every mention was an attempt to get you to check out his work. This time it's an order. Watch this movie.



As music documentaries go, this is one of the best I've ever seen.

There's also a new compilation of Arthur's previously unreleased material available from Audika Records, called Love Is Overtaking Me. This latest collection focuses largely on the folk, country and pop songs that are probably some of his best, and definitely most accessible work. Here are a few of my favorites:
