also, am obsessively checking out the oldies in this flickr photo gallery. they've been satiating my current desire for middle-american ephemera and imagery, which i'm attributing to having read too much from cather, crane, and james lately. someone recommend me something a little more modern to read?

easy: read the Watchmen. i just did and it was awesome. or read some murakami, or vonnegut, or cormac mccarthy's The Road. I'm reading Raymond Chandler right now which is awesome if you're into hard-boiled mystery. I know I am.
hm. my boss just gave me "on the road" the other day, and i'm still on hiatus from murakami and vonnegut. so i'll keep an eye out for this "the watchmen" book you speak of...
