Will Work For Art

This J.S.G. Boggs post at Constant Seige led me to an older post at Art Work about great moments in the economy of art.

The compiled list showcases some famous and lesser-known instances where artists challenged, or sometimes drew attention to, the strange relationship between capitalism and the commerce of art. Works like Piero Manzoni's "Merda d'artista" pose questions about the value of a work of art and even what can be called art. Others, like Ed Keinholz's watercolors used as barter blur the line between art and currency.

It's a great read filled with prime material for your next dinner conversation with your uppity artist friends.
