With the inevitable demise of printed media close at hand, it's not too surprising that BlakRoc, the new project spearheaded by Dame Dash and The Black Keys, hasn't gotten too much hype. BlakRoc is an (arguably) innovative approach to blues-rock and hip-hop fusion, featuring The Black Keys as the house band, and a rolling roster of hip-hop heavyweights on the mic. In the glory days of corporate printed media, this would be a headline-maker. You would see Dash, Dan Auerbach, and Mos Def on the cover of Rolling Stone playing grab-ass, and Mos probably wearing a sharpied white-tee reading "Corporate Rap Still Sucks." They would hail this project as groundbreaking and visionary. It's not.

READ MOREBlakroc is an auspicious, but not all that surprising combination of a modern blues-rock band, that pays a healthy tribute to classic blues, and a bunch of open-minded rappers who want to pay tribute to their musical roots while still appearing to be progressive. The bottom line is it seems to work.

No other modern band does the blues like The Black Keys, and with a line-up of MC's, including RZA, Raekwon, Mos Def, Jim Jones, Q-Tip, and Ludacris, it's hard to do wrong.

Blakroc is out 11/27. You can keep up with the ablum's progress at Blakroc.com.
