Hi-5: Explode Into Colors

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that most of the bands I love are actually comprised of really nice people, but somehow I always am... anyway, we just got another awesome "Hi-5" from Claudia Meza of Explode Into Colors! I'm super-psyched about it and it couldn't come at a better time because it gives me an excuse to remind you that you should go buy their new cassette right now! Go!

Without further ado, here it is, the pun, the myth, the legend, our "Hi-5" from Explode Into Colors:

1) What's the one thing you're most excited about right now (or in the near future)?
Going to surf camp with Lisa (EIC and Kickball's drummer).

2) What are your two pieces of required reading (a.k.a. the books you recommend the most)?
Well, I don't know about required reading but I'll give you the two books that where the intellectual equivalent to first hearing Nirvana or something. "Illuminations" by Walter Benjamin and in high school it was "The Incredible and Sad Tale of Innocent Eréndira and Her Heartless Grandmother" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Oh, and this Lorca poem my mom used to read me when I was kid. I forget the title but it has a small child wearing his silence on his finger like a ring...whoa. Federico Garcia Lorca is one of the few poets I regularly read.

3) What three things have been inspiring you the most lately?
Bike rides downtown while listening to Wavves, writing new songs and working on new project with EIC. Moving into a new room that isn't located in a basement. Not that there is anything wrong with basement rooms, I'm just personally ready for some fresh air.

4) Tell us four things about yourself (or anyone in the band).
Lisa eats yams in nearly every meal (slight exaggeration but not really).

Heather tried out for STOMP the Broadway musical and blew her audition by doing interpretive ballet. Not a joke.

In Jr. High I tried out for this all boy Green Day cover band and was told I couldn't join because I didn't have the "right image".

I was in a break-dancing crew when I was six...it was my uncle's. My mom made me stop when she saw me spinning on my head.

5) What five songs or albums are you listening to the most right now?
I'm really digging Wavvves by Wavves, like I mentioned earlier. I recently discovered Scott Walker so his records are always on, including the stuff he did with his brother. Summer is fast approaching so I've also been dusting off the Beach Boys. Basically anything that makes my bike rides that much radder. Any suggestions?

xo Claudia

Well, there you have it. Claudia's into Lorca, The Beach Boys and break-dancing, and we're into her. Everybody's happy right!?
